WE'RE BACK

Hello all :)

We know we've been a tad quiet recently, but that's only because we've been beavering away in the studio. Amidst earthquakes, floods and rugby tournaments we've been writing and playing, and we got some great new songs to show for it :)

We packed out the Barfly (Camden) in November; so it seemed the ideal place to play our first gig this year. Come Saturday the 29th of March we'll be back onstage at the Barfly, and we can't wait.

Not only will we be showcasing some rather brilliant new tracks, but we will be joined onstage by our extra special guest, the rather fabulous and stunning Veronika Valentine.

So you really really really do not want to miss this gig. It is going to be amazing!

There's a lot more planned for the year, but you'll hear of it as it happens. We're all very excited about the new material, so hopefully there'll be some new recordings surfacing very soon.

Sorry if we haven't been replying as often as we should, we haven't really had many opportunities to log on. Stay in touch and we will catch up with all the mail we've received.

Much love (as always)

HH AND MOBILE ACT - WHAT A NIGHT!!!!!

Well what can we say about last night? It was an incredible experience…

We arrived at the Scala (King's Cross, London) for the mobileact competition at about 3.30pm. It was already in full swing and we found out we weren't going on stage until 10pm! We settled ourselves down backstage for a long wait, talked trash and watched Darren show us his football skills on complimentary bottles of water.

After a couple of hours the crew took us up onto the roof for a photo shoot. When Darren threw open his arms and shouted "Hello King's Cross" the camera man immediately turned his camera on him and said, "Now do that again for TV." We then launched into an acoustic version of "In the Morning Light" and our sound floated over London's rooftops. When we finished the crew immediately clamoured for copies of our CD – and there weren't enough to go around! (If any members of the crew are reading this just drop us a message and we'll get one in the post to you).

Unfortunately its doubtful they'll broadcast any of that, which is a real shame.

After we left the roof we went backstage where we were interviewed by Alex Zane who commented on our imposing height, our multi-ethnic background and our amazing fanbase :)

We were the last band on stage and we were determined to end the night with a bang. And we did! We delivered our tightest, most energetic performance of "On This Day" ever and when we finished the crowd screamed, whistled, clapped and generally went wild.

Then it was time for the judge's to give their feedback. The crowd went quiet and all eyes turned to Just Jack, Alex James, Jo Whiley and Simon Gavin from Universal:

The first judge to speak was "Just Jack". He simply said "you have an absolutely astounding voice" and when asked if we should go through he gave a definitive "yes" (nice one Jack).

Next up was Alex James (bass player from Blur); he seemed genuinely impressed and started off by saying that despite seeing over 50 bands during the auditions we were the only band with a totally unique sound. He commented how our song (On This Day) was "tender", "touching", "beautiful" and "built to a satisfying climax". He complimented Dharshika's vocals and, when asked whether we should get through, said "absolutely, yes" (thanks Alex).

Jo Whiley said Dharshika had a "powerful voice" and said she found him "mesmerizing" to watch. Saying, "I don't know what to make of you guys" she seemed totally shell-shocked. It was a no from Jo, but an apologetic one.

Simon from the record label associated with the competition said "this is music I'd play to my friends" but that this competition was wrong for us and that if we continued on in the competition they would "fuck it up" for us and we would end up hating the label and our manager would sue them! :op He said no but ended by saying "You would fit perfectly on Peter Gabriel's Realworld label. Don't change anything, keep doing what you do. You will definitely get signed, but with the right label"

The volley of boos and hisses from the audience when Simon didn't put us through was so overwhelming that he had to stop talking and looked into the audience rather apprehensively (ha ha :op). In our post gig interview Alex Zane commented on how much the audience (most of whom had never heard of us before) had loved us. We said it on camera then and we'll say it again now "we are the people's band"…

Channel 4 continued to film us as we chatted backstage about the competition and the reactions we'd received from the judges. Unlike some of the other bands who were gutted by the feedback they'd received and the fact they had to leave the competition we loved the whole experience. Four music industry professionals gave us nothing but praise (they didn't criticise a single thing about our song, our performance, our musicianship or our sound) and there was a general vibe that us leaving this competition isn't the end, but the start of something even bigger.

Lastly we'd just like to congratulation the Gingerbread Men on getting through to the next round. You guys deserved to get through, you gave a fantastic performance and are one of the soundest bands we've met on the scene. We will be backing you all the way lads

We'd also like to thank The Vigours for turning up and their support. We love you guys :)

As for each and every one of you that voted, turned up and sent us wishes of support and good luck, you fucking rule and we love you loads :D

Much love

BROKEN BUTTERLY – FAME GAME REVIEWS

Hi Guys,

Here's what both the FM reviewers and the FM panel had to say about our song "Broken Butterfly (A Lullaby).

Fame Games Reviewers:

"Bowie meets Aaron Nevill. Very good all around. The song could have lifted more towards the end, but ``spellbinding`` is not a bad word to use here nonetheless"

"Magical! Wonderful! Romantic!"

"Superb atmosphere…. I love the voice and the idea"

"The accapella kick off to this one sets the scene for a spectacular vocal performance, which doesn't falter through out. The song is dreamy and pleasant Sunday morning stuff. (Even though it's currently Saturday morning, it still fits. Perhaps I'll listen to it again tomorrow to test my theory.) Yes. Nicely recorded, and perfectly played throughout. I like it a lot. Crikey, the standard's high this week!"

"What a beautiful song! Just what the world needs…. Great singing. I'd buy this. It's very refreshing and touching"

"Hauntingly beautiful. This is such a nice work of art. The vocal is awesome. I love the acoustic solo. Nothing but absolute praise for this song!!"

Fame Games: Official Panel

"Superb! That's just about the only word that seems adequate here. The vibe of the whole piece, the vocal, the playing - it's all there, soundly confirming that we're dealing with not just pros, but very talented artists indeed"

HEAVEN'S HEATHENS - GIG FOR MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE

Well summer seems to be finally peaking through, and what better way to celebrate, and do something worthwhile at the same time, than to come down to the Torriano Charity Festival this Saturday the 21st of July. Not only do you get incredible music but you get a BBQ too. All that for £2! Now that's value for money ;)

The charity is in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Care. The Torriano festival is a one day acoustic/indie festival full of good music, good food, good drink, and hopefully a few fleeting seconds of sunshine. Its promising to be a shambolic day of amazing music in an incredibly intimate lil pub. The acts start at 2pm and go on till 2am.

Of course Heaven's Heathens will be performing too. we'll be performing a totally acoustic set full of all our favourites (and a couple of new ones thrown in for good measure) with the awesome Hair Bear keeping the beats pumping.

If you like our music you don't want to miss us acoustic. We might even thrown in some free CDS ;)

The Torriano is in Kentish Town 71-73 Torriano Avenue.

Among the acts will be the rather fabulous Vigours, soul legend Omar and many other wonderful bands.

So come on guys, remember all proceeds from the day will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Hopefully they should be up on myspace within the next couple of weeks. So till then have a great long weekend despite the rain that's meant to be heading our way.

UPDATE FROM THE STUDIO - PART 1

Hello everybody

Sorry we haven't been in touch recently, we haven't had a chance to log onto myspace much. While the seasonably wet weather rages outside we have been holed up in a cosy little studio keeping our bodies warm with large quantities of wine. The three new songs we are currently laying the final touches to are without a doubt our best work to date, and hopefully they'll be up on myspace for you all to hear very very soon

Hope you are all happy, healthy and having fun.

HEAVEN'S HEATHENS ON BBC RADIO LONDON 94.9FM
"One of London's most spectacular bands"
Big George, DJ, BBC Radio London

On Saturday the 10th of March, our very own Dharshika was invited to take part in a special programme on BBC London online in honour of the "Sing London" competition. Presented by Big George (who hosts BBC London 94.9's overnight show) the broadcast was a discussion on great examples of songwriting.

Dharshika was there representing the Heaven's Heathens, and after "In the Morning Light" was played answered a few questions in his own rambling manner on songwriting and music in general.

For those that wish to hear the broadcast we should have a link online soon

GREETINGS FROM THE HEAVEN'S HEATHENS

Well it's a new year, and we are back! We started 2007 with a bang at the Good Ship in London. Our thanks go out to the rather excellent Vigours for inviting us down. Check them out and hear for yourself why we enjoyed their set so much. We quickly followed that with another gig at the Clapham Grand, which was somewhat marred by the ineptitude of the promoter, but nonetheless turned out to be an amazing night. Our thanks go out to all you awesome people who weathered the freezing London night to come and see us. There will be plenty more shows to come this year, with a whole host of new songs.

We will be studio bound for the next two months writing and recording new material. After initial attempts to finally write a "happy" song, we've given up and are back to what we do best. We'll have even the happiest of you weeping into your tea and biscuits ;D Unfortunately this means we have to take a break from performing live for the next two months, but we can guarantee that it will be worth the wait. We are incredibly proud of the new songs and believe them to be our strongest material to date. Hopefully you will be able to judge for yourselves in the coming months.

We have been blown away by the level of recognition we have received over the past 12 months, especially surrounding the strength of our live performances. It's been pretty amazing for us to constantly receive such glowing feedback. Last year was an incredibly rewarding year for us, and this year looks set to be even better. We have some pretty huge things in the pipeline, and hopefully they will all come to fruition over the coming year. As always, you guys will be the first to know when they do.

We would like to thank you all for the incredible support and friendship that you have shown us. Thanks to myspace we have met some incredible people and made some amazing new friends. We have been incredibly touched by how much our music means to some of you. Thank you for continually turning up to our shows and for making it possible for us to keep doing something we love so much. Over the course of the next twelve months we will have various competitions and maybe a free gig or two (for our myspace fans only) to show our gratitude. So make sure you check up on us every so often, and please do stay in touch.

Much love
Dharshika

First of all thanks for all the support! Things are really kicking off for us and it's all due to you guys. You have made it hard for the "powers that be" to miss us.
